Fundraising Parent Runners Feature in Hackney Gazette

The Halley House Hawks are a group of parents of children at Halley House School who ran the Hackney Half Marathon on Sunday as part of their fundraising efforts to raise £2,500 for additional playground equipment. Click here to read the Hackney Gazette coverage of the day.

Parents are motivated to improve the school playground that will include a new climbing structure, resurfacing and a wildlife area. The fundraising team consisted of Maeve, Dave, Hugo, Chris, Seemone and Ashleigh who all trained throughout the winter, enduring freezing weather, early mornings and injuries.

Chris “We had an incredible level of support on the day from parents, children and the Friends of Halley House.  Seeing them on the way round really made a difference.  It’s fantastic how much money we have managed to raise towards the cost of new playground equipment.”

Dave said, “It was better than the London marathon, loved the music from the DJs’ en route and was in awe of the barefoot runners!  RunDem crew were also a great bunch of folk, giving little moments of motivation along the way.”

Maeve said: “It’s amazing to have an event like this right on our doorsteps and the residents of Hackney gave fantastic support and encouragement to runners really made it extra special”.

Claire Syms, Headteacher “I know I speak on behalf of all the staff and particularly the children at Halley House School when I say how proud we are of our Halley Hawks and their fantastic fundraising efforts! The funding will make a big difference to the outdoor provision on site and we really look forward to seeing our new playground!”
